Below are minutes from the association's most recent meeting.
VAAA Minutes for April 21, 2011
· The VAAA meeting of April 21, 2011 convened at 9:15 a.m. at The New Horizons Regional Education Center in Hampton.
· Present at the meeting: Gary Duff, Ray Louth, Norris Williams, Al Melton, Jim Hughes, Trish Morrison, Dave Siewart, Tommy Bell, Darold Kemp, Delores Ferrell, and Ray Davenport.
· Tommy Bell was introduced by Ray Louth. Each person present introduced themselves.
· Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
· Jim Hughes gave the treasurer’s report. The account has $14,090.20.
· Gary Duff gave a report on the golf tournament. The 8th annual tournament will be held at The Hollows Golf Club on September 15 at 1:00 p.m. This year’s honoree will be Ray Davenport. Gary asked for help once again for recruitment of players and teams as well as hole sponsors.
· Jim Hughes gave the scholarship committee report. Two $1000 scholarships will be given and 1 new $1000 scholarship for CTE teachers across Virginia. Gary reported that the new CTE scholarship application was completed and e-mailed by Trish to 181 CTE advisors/principals across Virginia. They are to nominate a deserving teacher of their choice.
· Trish Morrison gave a membership report. She sent out 429 renewal packets. Gary reported that he went to the Virginia State Skills USA competition in Hampton to man a table for VAAA. Gary suggested that the VAAA needs a banner for such occasions. A motion was made and approved to have Norris make a VAAA table apron through the Department of Corrections. Gary also asked for a volunteer to man a table at the Skills USA state fair contest in September. Norris Williams and Ray Louth volunteered.
· Ray Louth presented a slate of officer candidates for the next term. Presented were: Norris Williams-President, Tommy Bell-Vice President, Gary Duff-Secretary, and Jim Hughes-Treasurer. A motion was made to accept the entire slate as presented. Motion carried. Ray mentioned that Darold Kemp would become a trustee.
· Trish Morrison asked if the VAAA planned to have an awards presentation event again this fall. The motion was made and carried to do so.
· Al Melton asked if we could make up some VAAA hats. Norris will also look into the cost.
· Meeting adjourned at 9:48.
